12/4/15 Taj’s hatrick is a job(son) well done! (some knowledge of The Skids helps with the headline) TAMPS – 6 Taj (3), Andy (2), GG ITV 3 After last week when we had an abundance of players at our Disposal, this week we found ourselves in the changing rooms With only 11. Calls were sent out to Jimmy O and Steve Rogers, Thankfully both obliged as with Smudger struggling with back Problems our 11 would have been 10 by H/T The game began with the Tamps passing the ball around for a Full minute and going absolutely nowhere!! Roymond broke this Passage of play by slipping over and taking out one of the oppo, A brutal assault that a lesser ref might have deemed worthy of A straight red!!, justice was done from the free-kick, when the Moaning midfielder from ITV struck a shot from fully 40yrds that Flew into the top corner beating MTK’s attempt at saving it. After This the Tamps had by far the best of the 1st half, so neat flowing Football starting from the back cut open the ITV defence at will, It wasn’t long before Taj got us level with a very well worked goal, Some twinkling toes from Andy made it 2-1 and GG curled a free-kick Into the bottom corner to make if 3-1 after 30 mins, the back 4 of TVB, DI Chris, Smudger, and Stevie Doyle coped well with a nippy ITV forward line, and played the off-side tactic pretty well (not helped By the reluctance of our subs/supporters not running the line) The midfield 4 of, Taj, Tonksy,DVD and GG were having a field day As the ITV M/F didn’t seem to want to defend and the front 2 of Roymond and Andy were doing well despite some robust defending. We capped off the 1st half when Andy scored a cracking volley after Some excellent wing play by Roymond, more Albert Finney than Tom But nevertheless good enough, so 4-1 at H/T. The second half saw the arrival of Jimmy O and Mr Rogers for Smudger and Steve Doyle, the pattern of the game was pretty much the same as the first Both teams had chances, and in between some pretty dire stuff some nice Flowing football was seen, Taj added a 5th after a another good move, before The back 4 were caught out to enable ITV to score a 2nd, Taj completed a Hat-trick but also managed to miss his easiest chance when he passed it past The post with only the keeper to beat, Andy then went off and GG went up front and showed how easy it is to miss gilt edged chances, Roymond had a goal disallowed Because of the ridiculous footwear he had on and Smudger allowed ITV a third by not flagging for a clear offside as he couldn’t be bothered, the final whistle went Just as the ball hit the net. Final score 6-3 Hopefully a few players will be back next week as at least 4 of todays line-up Will not be available. Team: MTK, TVB, DI Chris, SMUDGER, S. Doyle – Taj, Tonksy, DVD, GG – Andy, Roymond Subs: Mr Rogers, Jimmy O 29th March 15 Crofton Albion – 0 Tamps – 1 – Andy Fall backwards, Spring Forward……unless you’re the Gaffer!! Yes it was the weekend of the clocks going forward, now you always Expect someone to forget, but The Gaffer??, no way, this man is on The ball at all times, ‘’It’s all up here’’ he says pointing to his head, unfortunately Not this weekend, as we waited in our changing room for the 11th man to show,And Jimmy O from the young vets was trying to make contact, The Gaffer Was settling down to brekky, oblivious to the fact that 0915 was now 1015!! And to be honest that was the highlight of Sunday’s game. Awful pitch, awful conditions and a make shift XI didn’t make for the Best of matches, we were helped greatly by Paul G from the young vets And Keith ‘Tebbs’ Tebbutt, guesting, getting us up to XI. The beginning of The game was full of niggles, and Andy and Crofton Glen (who could start a fight in an empty house) Both behaved like guys who were not happy about losing that hours sleep, the game Settled down and TAMPS took the lead with a well worked goal, Paul G to Smudger, to Jaz who crossed for Andy to round the keeper and a slot home, both sides had half Chances and Crofton had a goal ruled out for a foul on MTK (would have stood in 1958, Lofthouse, The Lion of Vienna made a career from bundling keepers into the net!!) Second half was a lacklustre affair, the rain came to dampen spirits even More, the game was devoid of moments worth writing about, Roy, DI Chris Paul G and Grandad could have made the game safe by slotting one of the clear Chances that were created, but didn’t, so Crofton were in it to the final Whistle, although they didn’t really create any real chances. A 1-0 win. We Probably deserved the victory on chances made, but as reported earlier it was A game best forgotten Hopefully we will have a few players back for next week as trying to get through Games with only 11 is getting tough. Team: MTK, Smudger, Tebbs, Paul G, Mitch - Jaz, Squire Smith, DI Chris, Grandad – Andy, Roymond Troublesome wind does not cramp Tamps style.... Ashburnham Arms - 4 Tamps - 6 - MTB (4) Taj (2) The Tamps yet again were down to the bare XI, Podge jr going down with a case of the runs (something our cricketers could do with!!) late on Sat, Squire Smith basking in a Saints victory at Bath and DVD ferrying around the latest Palace (Crystal that is) acquisition, meant Smudger and TVB both being pressed into action they could have done without. As for the game, the pitch was crap, uneven, long grass and with inadequate markings, plus with the usual zephry that accompanies any game at the barracks made for a game in which I can safely say football was not the winner. We gave them all 4 of their goals through defensive mistakes (Smudge and DI Chris the main culprits) and in turn scored 6 decent ones ourselves, MTB and Taj both keeping up their rich vein of form. To be honest I can't say much more as it was a game very few (if any) of the Tamps enjoyed. Nice showers, no food and bottled beer (which ran out) how glad we were to get back to the bosom of the Roan (clubhouse not Linds!!) few pints and being spoilt by the lovley Linds producing a platter of nibbles to help us digest the Spurs v Hammers footy on the box. Team: MTK Jaz DI Chris SMUDGER TVB Taj Podge sr Tonksy Jim MTB Andy One for the record books (in best James Alexander Gordon voice) Catford Wanderers 2 – Tamps 14 (Fourteen) Always wanted to do that! Tamps returned to winning ways, but with an ultimately hollow victory, against a depleted CW side that due to Saturday football are struggling to get a full quota of players. Even with the valiant Tim Van-Basten (looking like a deckchair in the wind in an unflattering kit), Catford only had 10 against what could be argued to be a first-choice Tamps side (and Tonksy); although CW again fielded one or two youngsters. It actually took Tamps 10-15 minutes to open the scoring (Mark the Bike with a far-post header after a quick corner by Tonksy to GG), but as soon as they did the goals came thick-and-fast, only punctuated by Jazz’s trip for a penalty, which the 29 year-old Catford player put past Mark the Keeper for 3-1. The same player soon then gifted the Tamps a goal with a stupid trick going back towards his goal and a pass to the centre-back – MTB nipping in like the Artful Dodger to make it 4. Half-time came at 40 minutes [only] with the score at 7-1. The second half saw Andy swap sides, “to keep you back four honest”, and Granddad Graham having a personal battle with himself in an outrageous effort to avoid buying a jug! Time and again he was put in an excellent position, only to eschew the chance. He even fell over the keeper’s foot rather than score – and then insisted that Chris take the penalty! Amazingly, Catford scored the first goal of the half; the ball taking a Shane Warne-esque spin to leave Baby Podge on his ‘Aris. Having a man fewer in the second half meant that Tamps had to step up their game, and they moved the ball quickly as Catford tired. Even Tonksy had a shot, to much mirth all round. Referee Brian ‘Aggro’ Hamer blew the final whistle after about 35 minutes this time, and the Tamps had repeated their first-half score. Scorers: MTB – 5 Taj – 4 GG – (just the) 2 Podge sr – 2 Chris – 1 (pen) Jugs to be bought next week – Yay. MOM – Mark The Bike, five goals, a couple of assists. And he didn’t try NOT to score! Welcome; to the smallest pitch in the world Welcome 4 - Tamps 3 ; Podge sr, MTB, GG A strong looking Tamps squad arrived at Beckenham Cricket Club on the back of a couple of reverses, with a determination to return to winning ways. Unfortunately, this isn’t how the day panned out. This was at least the second occasion this season where the opposition have selected a pitch in order to stifle the Tamps ‘rickety-taka’™ football; the first being Inter Viagra who selected the bumpiest pitch they could find in a wind-tunnel. Welcome went for the interesting ‘7-a-side pitch with full-size goals’ scheme. Although the surface was magnificent. The pace was [obviously] [relatively] frenetic from the start with space at such a premium, and Tamps soon found themselves two down. The first came from a Podge (sr) tackle that became the perfect through ball, Smudge trying valiantly to block the forwards route to goal. The second came from a half-cleared corner, with Tamps failing to get ‘out’, (where exactly they were supposed to get ‘out’ to on a pitch the size of a tennis court is anyone’s guess!). It was looking bleak, and a hiding was on the cards. But on a pitch the size of a mid-sized bouncy castle anything can happen, and almost immediately Tamps were level. Podge sr had been played in behind the back-four, but his pull-back from the byline was cut out by the defence. Mark the Bike harried the defender, and seemed to toe the ball forward. Podge, strolling back from an offside position, was still waiting for the referee’s whistle to go as he clipped the ball home – giving the ‘keeper ‘the eyes’ to send him the wrong way. From the kick-off, it was 2-2. Podge sr was again involved, his run into the box (and the defender) allowed the ball to roll to MTB who rounded the goalkeeper easily. Welcome still had time to smash the bar with a shot, but at the half it was all square. Tamps now had the [dubious] advantage of a stiff breeze. This resulted in a goal, but also meant that they eschewed their favoured passing style. The goal was the most route-one of efforts, Baby Podge’s goal-kick going and all the way through (fully fourteen yards) to Grandad who was stood alone in the opposition box, with the linesman vainly trying to explain to the Welcome defence that there was no offside from a goal-kick. A schoolboy error, which was punished by GG’s deft flicked header over the onrushing goalie. The wind then provided Welcome with their equaliser, as a miss-hit cross left MTK all-ends-up and looking like the catch-of-the-day, both ball and keeper ending up in the net. Welcome then scored what proved to be the winner, Tamps losing the ball in midfield and the striker striding forward (fully two paces!) on the postage-stamp sized pitch, and shooting into the top-corner. Welcome brought on a ringer in goal, and time ran out with no further incident. We adjourned to the bar, for an [expensive] pint of Guinness. At least Mick DVD made a killing! Police show caring side, and loan us a 71yr old full back...... Met Police - 4 TAMPS - 1 - Jimmy (header!!) At time of writing the Tamps squad is decimated, this week we had only 9 players, people not available, injured or just not showing (Tonksy!!). The Police kindly loaned us Ron, a fairly sprightly 71yr old, rather than any of the 30 somethings they had in their squad of 15, our back 5 now averaged a healthy 54 years a man (this included Podge jr who at 37 would still have had probably 5 players younger than him if he were playing for the Police). we managed to get upto XI when Barry arrived to watch, but was pressed into playing, and did a fine job. The Police went long ball from the start, most aimed at the left back slot occupied by Ron, the makeshift Tamps line-up were all over the place and couldn't stem the tide of Police attacks and eventually found themselves a goal down, a scrappy one but no less than the Police deserved. A tactial change was made and Smudger swapped positions with Squire Smith, moving central in midfield and The Squire out wide left, this seemed to work much better and the attacks were stemmed and the Tamps started to mount their own, from one of these The Squire should have made it 1-1 but with the goal at his mercy managed to fire over. then virtually on half time another long ball from the Police caught our defence out Podge jr valiantly blocked the shot only to see if spin into the air and over MTK into the net, the back 5 of MTK, TVB, DI Chris, Podge jr and Ron had done really well after the intial 15mins and we felt a bit hard done by. so 0-2 at h/t The second half was mainly the Tamps until the last 10 mins when tired legs and minds set in during our period of dominance we fashioned a fine goal from Jimmy (a header) set up by a fine cross from Barry after good work by the midfield, the Police countered this by taking off one of their 2 supervets and replacing him with a 30 something, at this point they must have had a leat 8 players aged 30ish on the field and though we pride ourselves on being a reasonably fit side for a bunch of old buggers the 20 years a man age gap took its toll, DVD and Jim worked hard on the right hand side to try and fashion and equaliser but just as it looked as if a decent first time ball from DVD would set Barry away he held on a bit too long and the chance passed, only for the Police to counter and a few lucky bounces off shins saw them go 3-1 up. By now Andy and Barry were spent, both had worked really hard against a Police defence that took no prisoners (pun intended!!), and the game ended with a breakway 4th. We trudged off knowing that with a decent squad of 13 we would have beaten them regardless of the age diffference. We took to the bar and a few pints and a bit grub lightened our mood, which was further brightened by the sight of that techno geek The Squire trying to change channels on the big screen, the result being, sunlight bursting in as he manged to open the automatic curtains, and with his next move managed to make the large screen disappear altogether!! good job there were only us 4 Tamps left in the bar or the off duty riot police might have been called to action. No belt needed as we had two sets of braces…..
Catford Wanderers – 2
TAMPS – 6 – Andy(2), Taj(2), Podge sr, MTB
A crisp, bright morning saw the Tamps arrive in Catford to play the last
Game of 2014, due the the festive period and an ever lengthening injury
List the text from Ains meant that The Gaffer would need to put his boots
On and make up the starting XI. A very young looking opposition was not what
He needed but fortunately one of their older players was up against him (phew!!)
The Tamps as usual knocked the ball around and there younger opponents struggled
To get in foothold in the game, Podge sr and Smudger formed a new central midfield
Partnership and controlled the game for large sections, the ball out from the back was
In the main very good, and the back 4 of Jim, DI Chris, Podge jr and The Gaffer were
Never really in trouble. About half way through the half the Tamps, after yet again opening up the CW defence were rewarded with a goal from MTB, a good move down the right resulted in Taj crossing and MTB side footing him from close range, no more than the Tamps deserved as they dominated the game. No sooner had we got in front that we gave the ball away on the right and their stocky Left sided midfielder let fly with a well hit shot that nestled in the far corner of MTK goal. After numerous attempts from both GG and Taj to get a decent
Cross in, they finally combined, and a swift move down the left resulted in GG’s cross
Being met by Taj’s diving header, a classic that brought applause from the watching
Crowd (Linds, Scholesy, Jamie and Josh, Ains and a member of the the Podge sr family)
So 2-1 at H/T could and should have been more.
The second half saw CW take off two of their older players and replace them with a
Pair that were far younger (one we are led to believe was 29!!) The Gaffer was more
Than happy to make way for Ains as he could see these new young bucks running us
Into the ground, I am happy to say this didn’t happen, and if anything the Tamps took
Even more control, MTB had now moved to the left of midfield to accommodate Ains who
Formed a new attacking partnership with Andy, playing his first game for a while, with
The ball being moved about quickly, the spaces opened up for our wide players and
MTB set up Andy to lash in a goal on his return, more good football saw the same two
Players involved and Andy completed his brace with another cracking finish, supplied
By MTB, by now the Tamps were in total control and the best goal of the game (could be
Season) came when a move starting with a ball out from MTK was moved from Smudger to
GG onto MTB who rolled a passed into the path of Podge sr who hit a curling shot from
20yards into the top corner, a big celebration from the scorer was met by a few choice
Comments from one of the CW players, who by now had see enough and spent the rest
Of the game trying to kick someone, he failed!!. The last goal was another excellent
Flowing move finished with a shot that didn’t do the move justice, but it was yet another
Goal for Taj and he joined Andy with a brace. The game finished 6-2 in our favour, it was
Very nice of the ref to say that he thoroughly enjoyed watching us play and that if we had
Scored 10 it would still not have been a fair reflection on our dominance.
No drinking at CW as we needed to get back to the club (Smudger’s brothers were coming down for a drink!!) it seemed a good call as 10 of us made it back and a few Guinness were consumed.
All in all a good 2014, won more than we lost, picked up a bit of silverware in the process and the
General sense of enjoying the football we are playing and the people we are playing with.
Only, and biggest downer was the loss of Rich of the North, sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Inter Vyagra – 2
Tamps – 2 – Taj, GG
The wind blew, oh how it blew, a biting north easterly put paid to any decent
Football being played, although the TAMPS did try, and that coupled with a
Pitch that looked as if the Household Cavalry had been practicing on it meant that the match was not one that anyone present would want to remember.
Tamps gave away the first goal, scored a very good equaliser from a move down
The left ending with a GG cross and a bullet header from Taj, first half complete.
The second was not much better, TAMPS lumped a few too many long balls and
The match descended into the TAMPS attacking and IV defending, GG scored direct
From a corner and a dubious decision led to an IV free kick which was bundled into
The net for an equaliser (a push by the IV forward went undetected!!). The IV keeper
Made a few decent saves and everyone was happy to hear the final whistle 2-2.
The main event, Secret Santa was still to take place back at the club, a quick beer then
Back for the pressy’s!! Some people made an effort (TVB especially) but other’s no names
TAJ, didn’t (a box of very unpleasant chocolates, I ask you). A lot more beers were
Consumed and a swap of presents here and there.

Tamps 0 - 2 Farnboro
Match report: Smudger
Some of our players are missing……..
After the tremendous turnout the week before the Tamps found themselves scratching around to get an XI onto the pitch, this was only achieved with the welcome addition of Andy Rushbrook who had only made his footballing comeback the Sunday before in Richard’s match playing for Toby. With no ref either, it was down to the Gaffer to take hold of the whistle, which I know for sure he blew at least 5 times (start and end of the half’s and a penalty). What was pleasing for the Tamps was that with a very makeshift team we managed to play some really delightful football in testing conditions, the back 4 of James Cheese, DI Chris, Andy R and Smudger were playing the ball out from the back with ease, the midfield of Taj, Squire Smith, Tonksy and DVD were working exceptionally hard and moving the ball around the pitch and feeding MTB and Roymond with a lot of decent ball, the only problem was that we didn’t get in front, Taj had two glorious chances, One with his head from a long searching cross by Smudge, and then after an excellent move from the back to the front his was played in one-on-one but their very good keeper made a great save, we then went 0-1 behind with probably the only mistake we made in the first half, and somehow a ball managed to squirm it’s was right across the face of the box only to end up at the feet of a very good Fboro striker who duly finished with aplomb.
We knew the second half would be very hard as with no subs and a testing pitch we were going to get tired, and this we did, we still managed to make the game very competitive and continued to play some really nice football, we created chances and I feel that the Fboro keeper was the busier of the two and produced a couple of really good saves to keep the game at 0-1, the biggest plus that Fboro had was that they had 5 subs and were able to bring fresh legs on at regular intervals, it was from one of these substitutions that ended up with a tired Taj clipping the heels of a Fboro midfielder as he entered the box, the Gaffer duly obliged with a tune on his whistle and a finger point to the spot, the Fboro forward converted the penalty with panache. The Tamps still pushed forward and in so doing got caught out by a quick counter attack which resulted in and excellent save low to his right by MTK, we didn’t deserved to lose by anymore than the 0-2 scoreline (some say we derserved a draw) and in fact had the last chance of the game when Roymond’s far post header brought yet another excellent save from the Fboro keeper, the whistle went, and as we trudged off to a man we all thought it had been one of our better performances, and it was nice of the Fboro players to concur that they thought we deserved better.
Into the bar for refreshments which were enjoyed by both teams, roll on 2 weeks when with more players we can reverse this result.

Metrogas 1 - 2 Tamps
Scorer: Scholesy 2
Match report: Podge Senior
‘Cheat’ allegations mar historic win. By Matthew ‘2 scoops’ Podger – your roving reporter
Old Tamponians supremo Graham Lawrance immediately announced an enquiry following allegations of corruption in the aftermath of ‘Tamps’ first ever away win at Metrogas. The gaffer promised to ‘leave no stone unturned’ in attempts to get to the bottom of the claims (full report below), which came about after Metrogas had a late equaliser disallowed by referees assistant (and linesman) Tim Van Basten.
“I shall leave no stone unturned” Lawrance, 76, stated. “As Paddy [Powell] said, Tim’s no cheat; he is possibly useless though”.
The controversy came toward the end of a tight but skilful game, in which Steve Gritt (yes, that Steve Gritt!) scored in-between two strikes from Colin ‘sniffer’ Scholesy.
Metrogas started well, but Tamps, ably marshalled by Smudger, soon started to get on-top. On a heavy pitch, Tamps moved the ball around effortlessly. Chances, however, were at a premium; Metrogas testing ‘keeper’ Mark with a long-range effort, while ‘dvd’ Mick put a shot just passed the far post, with the ‘Gas keeper at full stretch. Baby Podge took the time to catch up with Sammo, their ongoing chat meaning the Metrogas forward really wasn’t in the game.
Tamponians took the lead after about a half-hour. A good looking move down the right seemed to have petered out when the ball was lost. As Metrogas tried to play their way out, Big Podge’s interception on the edge of the box fell kindly for Scholesy, who having just come on, scored with his first touch. Texts were immediately sent to his missus!
Metrogas made changes at half-time, bringing on some younger [looking] players, which contrasted nicely with Tamps having to bring on [even] older players; Big Podge being withdrawn at the hour, his heavy cold leaving him spent; “Remind Graham we were 1-0 up when he went on”, Podge was heard to say.
Metrogas started to take control, and despite stoic defending from Toby Chris and Baby Podge (who’d obviously run out of things to say), equalised from a corner with a powerful, unmarked header. At this point there looked to be only one winner; Metrogas were well on top. But galvanised by their leaders presence at left-back, a resurgent Tamps twice broke forward, leading to a free-kick each time; the second of which produced a goal.
Good Graham, previously anonymous in centre-midfield, whipped in a swerving, dipping shot which the keeper (who in the first half had been out on the pitch), could only parry. Scholesy forced home the rebound.
Metrogas doubled their efforts, and soon had the ball in the net. Good work on the edge of the box, with the ball being moved right to left and an angled shot into the bottom corner. But there was Tim’s flag, and the goal was instantly disallowed. The grumblings of ‘cheat’ began immediately.
There was just time for Metrogas to hit the post after another cross from the left. And then –
Fin.

Match report: Smudger
Roy races in.....
Lovely crisp mlorning, and a beautiful playing surface, now all we needed was enough players to get the game underway, gradually we got upto 12,this included Smudge and Scholesy who were carrying injuries and Podge jr who was suffering from his drinking session the night before (he kindly informed us of his many bowel movements that had taken place that morning). We kicked off and soon found out that they had a young(ish) and quick forward who had a decent chance within the first couple of minutes, Tamps had a lot of the ball but just didnt have the zip of the previous Sunday or the quality of passing Smudge failed on 3 occasions to find GG with relatively easy through balls and with his knee not feeling great made way for Scholesy, he noticed that by now Tonksy and Roymond had appeared to boost our numbers, ever since Leeds Tonksy had been arriving later and later (what went on in Leeds???),
Tamps continued to knock the ball around without really putting the oppo goal under real threat, Andy and MTB were getting the usual tight marking from the Cudham defence, and the midfield of Taj, Squire Smith, DVD and GG were gradually getting to grips with the lively M/F of the oppo, then a major change happened when the young forward limped off with a calf injury, much to the delight of Chris, TVB and Podge jr, Andy finally had the Tamps first shot of the game (which could have been classed as a heavy backpass!!) then the ref blew for h/t 0-0.
Changes were made at h/t Tonksy replaced the Squire and Roymond replaced MTB, Smudge informed the team that ''the oppo were knackered'' this statement looked very wrong when Cudham came out of the blocks and kept the Tamps trapped in their own half for the first 10mins of the half and forced MTK to make a very good save to keep the scores level. After that initial burst the Tamps resumed control and the next 35 mins were spent pushing for a win,we got into lots of excellent positions but the final ball was not good enough, Roymond and Taj were having lots of crossing chances from the right, none of them much cop, GG and Scholesy were getting lots of time on the ball and as with the boys on the right could not quite find that telling cross, until, GG finally sent in a great ball to the far post (something Smudge had be advocating for much of the game) and Roy arrived to bullet a header past the oppo keeper, after this the Tamps had chances to put the game to bed but as said earlier did not seem to have the zip of the previous week.
Full time 1-0 another win, not a great performance.
Although the bar ran out of Guinness after pouring only 2 pints we stayed for a few glasses of bitter and were rewarded with a gratis drink from the bar steward for staying longer than the home team, this was accepted on behalf of the Tamps by TVB, Squire Smith and Smudge.

Tamps 4 - 2 Erith
Scorers: 4 (1) Mark the Bike, Mick Smith (2), Smudger Erith 2 (0) Bruno, Martin
Cor, what a scorcher! The weather that is.
Old Tamponians travelled to old rivals Erith Vets on a beautiful late September morning to play the beautiful game on a beautiful pitch. Kindly refereed by Richard, Erith struggled to get out of their own half for much of the first 45 minutes, their hospitality stretching to giving the Tamps the ball at every opportunity. (Perhaps they had misjudged their alcohol intake the night before?)
In fairness, Tamps also played a neat passing game and applied pressure to Erith defenders in their final third. This approach bore fruit after half an hour, with Mark the Bike winning the ball just outside the area and finishing off the move with a goal.
After a half-time inquest, Erith performed much more strongly in the second 45 minutes, even getting the ball in the back of the net after 60 minutes, although this was disallowed for offside by vigilante lino HRM (His Royal Madness) Barry. Much of the play was in the Tamps half for the next 20 minutes, with Erith coming close on a number of occasions.
After 65 minutes, Tamps went 2-0 ahead with a passing move from back to front involving a number of players, finishing with Mick Smith guiding the ball past the keeper inside the right hand post.
The game became increasingly stretched as both teams manfully struggled in the high temperatures, and Tamps exploited the space with a further goal, from Baby’s goal kick to Chris, chased down by Ainsley and scored by Mick Smith.
Erith kept going and responded with a similar goal from a goal kick which bounced past numerous Tamps players and fell into the path of Bruno who finished well.
Paul Smudger Smith eased the scoreline pressure with a fine individual goal which started from 40 metres out on the right wing followed by a dribble and a 25 meter shot which sailed into the net.
Once again, Erith kept going and scored a headed goal from a corner just before the final whistle.
Two very tired and perspiring teams then headed in the direction of the bar.

Tamps hamstrung, but get the job done......
As had been the case the previous week the Tamps were down to just 12 players, a few people were away and a couple more on the injured list. The morning didn't get off to a great start when down to admin problems (Smudgers phone was with O2 being fixed!!) MTK did not receive a confirmation text saying that his services
were required....Oops, but cometh the hour, cometh Roymond, who stepped in to take over in goal. We knew that CD would be pretty young as our insiders Podge jr and GG had given us prior warning, but it was good to see that CD still had 4 of their old(er) boys still playing. The first 20 mins was pretty much all Tamps, the ball was being moved around very nicely on a really good surface, the back 4 of Jaz, Chris, Podge jr and GG were only ever under pressure when the man mountain of a centre forward for CD got a head of steam up but even then they coped quite easily, Smudger had taken up a proper managers roll and was barking orders and encouragement and to his amazement they took heed, a great far post cross from DVD was headed home by Taj after some great interplay, the second was equally as well worked and MTB's shot was saved but Podge sr followed up to make it 2-0, with Tonksy linking up well with Andy and MTB it looked like an easy morning could be on hand, hold on this is the Tamps, why would we do that?? ''dig in for 5 mins'' came Smudger's request, and with that the Tamps went to sleep, CD hit back when their MM thundered a 20 yarder past a motionless Roymond (he wasn't asleep, it was just a very good strike) and then more sloppy play allowed CD to draw level, the last 15 minutes of the half was end to end, MTB had a couple of good chances to stretch our lead and Roymond pulled off an excellent save to keep it level, by H/T Jaz had departed with our first hamstring injury of the day.
The second half was again packed with good football, Tamps were slightly on top, but CD's youth was keeping them in the game. As the game wore on and the teams got tired space opened up, but the Tamps excellent fitness meant that it was only a matter of time before we were in front again, Andy had missed a good chance with a header and a few Tamps shots had narrowly missed their target, about 20 mins into the second half our 2nd hamstring injury occurred, when Podge sr signalled that his hammy was about to give out, with no subs we juggled the lineup and now virtually down to 10 men proceeded to get right on top, a fantastic move was finished by Taj with an excellent shot from 25 yards and more good football from Tonksy, Squire Smith, DVD and Podge sr ended with a quality finish from MTB. CD had one more chance to get back into the game but stirling work from The Squire and Roymond was enough for the forward to put his chance over the bar. The game as usual was played in a great spirit which made for an easy morning's work for Aggro the ref.
All in all a good win, we played some really neat and tidy football, and scored 4 good goals, Scholesy popped along and seems to think he will be ready for next
week at Erith having had yet another injection (good job we are not drugs tested!!) hopefully we will have enough players back to allow him a weeks more rest.
The beer in the bar was very nice, but a behind the scenes domestic meant no food, Smudger took the decision to replenish the troops with bags of snacks which
were paid for out of club subs, this met with universal approval.

Nice pint of Guinness....
Yes this was the best bit of the whole game, the pint in the bar after!!
Due to lots of people all being away on the same Sunday the Tamps were down to 10 players and needed the help of two Crofton Albion stalwarts Glen and Stewart (we thank them for their help). The game kicked off late due to Smudger arriving at 1030!! and three players not having the right shirts (Smudger had the magic bag with him), when we finally did get to the pitch we wondered if it had been worth the journey, rock hard, bumpy and large patches of brown grass, not what we are used to. It was hard to play a passing game on such a surface, but we tried, we looked to be pretty comftable at the back, the midfield were being harassed and kicked by the opponents (Glen gave as good as he got....game was right up his street) and the boys up front, GG and Stewart were getting bashed everytime the ball got near them (Mr Magoo, the ref saw nothing), but even with this happening we still managed to take the lead, a free kick from Glen was not cleared properly and a second cross was headed in by Taj, offside, probably, but Mr M didn't see it. The lead was short lived even though the back four of Jaz, Chris, Podge jr and TVB had not really been in any trouble, but as happened against Charlton Rangers a loss of the ball in midfield (DVD this time) when we were on the attack led to a quick break by Orpington and a bundled finish by their striker. H/T 1-1
The second half was a bit of a non event, Smudge had replaced TVB at left Back, DVD and Tonksy finally worked out the holding role of a midfield player and lots of people moaned (mainly Orpington players) which led to a few little squabbles, a lot was down to Mr M, the ref, missing blatant fouls but then giving stuff that none of the players saw, his most blatant miss was when DVD was in on goal and was pulled back inside the area the game fizzled out and we were all glad to hear the final whistle.
The bar was not great but the Guinness was very nice.

Avery Hill 1 v 2 Old Tamponians
Reporter - Tim VB
Although more infirm than Old Firm there is a longstanding, vigorous but affable rivalry between these two legendary sides, this ensuring an absorbing and largely even game in the first 2014-15 derby at the Old Roan Ultimate fighting Club.
With the hungover groundsman still too unsteady for pre-match pitch improvements the otherwise excellent surface was grassy and greasy: robust but fair challenges would be the order of the day. In general the defences would dominate but there would still be much to amuse.
Selflessly leaving himself out of the starting lineup Smudger had more time to contemplate how to distribute his Michaels. The pressure of this prestigious fixture, the local bragging rights involved and the absence of some star players (Grandad Graham off watching boys’ football in Portugal and Podger on an anger management away day) and perhaps a heavy Friday night linking to the start of the rugby season, had laid Mister Soccer low the previous day to the extent that he missed Steve Lockett’s 60th Birthday Party.
With Steve and Ainslie still partying and Groundsman Graham incapacitated there were no Avery Hill alumni in the Tamps team- surely a first in this fixture. Weekending with the Camerons in the Cotswolds deprived Avery Hill of the artist formerly known as Mad. Legends were missing but there were still plenty of familiar faces and some talent on view.
Chances were few in the competitive first half: for Avery Hill Stu placed an edge of the box free kick over (Do you mean high and wide? Ed.), this being just as well as several Tamps were still in shock having seen a keeper line up a defensive wall effectively. Clive’s angled left shot was well saved by Mick whose excellent general command and strong punches limited Avery Hill pressure. Tamps had more of the ball and combined well but couldn’t find a testing strike against a keeper who could make himself big but might be slow in going down. Andy’s strong header flashed wide but more characteristic was Scholesy’s whole hearted, energetic but ultimately fruitless (Do you mean futile? Ed.) approach. A well refereed first half ended goalless.
An early injury had led to Avery’s first change and now Des was required in goal depriving his team of his attacking strength and pace on the left which had previously created several opportunities. At first he had little to do. Roy’s sustained flirtation with Josh was more Last Tango in Halifax than Strictly but it didn’t support the attacking movements of the away (at home ) Tamps even undermining Baby Podger’s well directed free kick.
Smudger had also kept Tonksy out of the opening exchanges wanting further time to check his legs and confident he would become, in due course, the game’s dominant figure.
Avery Hill remained strong in defence with Steve H winning some terrific ball and Pirate Mick ensuring Ken was up fully up for the challenge by uncharacteristically scything him down from behind. Throughout Reasonable Dave was always close to which ever attacker came his way and with strength and guile (He kicked them? Ed.) also limited chances. Neil’s collapse in his own box-a result he assured this author of a two decade knee problem- not a sniper as players assumed- caused mirth, some panic in the home defence and a wasted opportunity. Mark ran tirelessly off the ball pressurising Avery’s defence and midfield and testing their ball retention skills .He also ran tirelessly with it testing his own team’s patience if not their will to live. Jas, making his first appearance in the fixture, made an attacking surge into the opposition half before realising what he had done and how far he had to get back.
With Smudger coming on to allow the party animal left back to referee Tamps began to hold the ball and build more thoughtfully. In due course Tonksy –central to most things (and many of them good) worked himself into space and was not quickly closed down. Using the time available to assess his options, noting teammates attacking the far post and seeing a goalie smaller than in the first half he curled an unreachable shot (You mean cross? Ed.) into the top corner. 1-0,a deserved lead perhaps, but one that was not to last long.
Despite being frustrated by his inability to pass around the well positioned and proportioned ref, Avery Andy pulled his team back into the contest. Consistently winning ball and using it tellingly he created several chances. The Tamps were on the back foot even if Mick hadn’t been seriously tested. Then Avery Hill were level ,Clive broke behind the defence, remained calm, controlled expertly and passed the ball into the far corner. Again the goalie had been given no chance.
With Roy and Taj sticking to the touchlines and Jim back in the game after Jas’ twinge the Tamps’ 4-2-4 looked adventurous but dangerous. However, with Lord Smith and Tonksy more than equal to their central responsibilities, Mark closing opponents quickly and Taj surging (Look!! Look!!) the pressure told.
Andy –having been rested for the 2nd and 3rd quarters by the master tactician-was back and fresh, ceaseless as ever in his search for a goal (as for a lager). The back pass was slightly under hit, other defenders hesitated, the keeper made the right move but Andy was quicker flicking the ball over the advancing Des and restoring the lead. 2-1 and a third fine strike. Perhaps surprisingly, determination not recrimination now characterised Avery’s response as they pressed hard to save the game.
Smudger, after some necessary and intense defensive chasing became a little giddy ,looked up too soon and was almost sick on his opponent. Chris snuffed out a seemingly good chance with excellent covering work and a brilliantly timed challenge to steal the ball. However, neither he nor the outstanding Baby Podger who had marshalled his defence so well could stop Clive pouncing on the best chance of the game.
With the almost unplayable combination of a fine first touch, thoughtful movement, the ability to work a telling shot despite significant defensive pressure and the certainty that his under hit pass results only from his team mates’ lack of vision Clive is a formidable striker : he has scored goals from nothing for both sides. Now he pounced as the ball broke to the penalty spot; with the keeper stranded at the near post the equaliser looked certain. The strike was sweet but just too high, smacking the bar rather than bulging the onion bag. The rebound fell to the attacking side but a snatched shot was skewed over; there would be no more chances.
Remaining calm, together and uncharacteristically solid, seeing out the last minutes with no scares the excellent Tamps secured a hard fought 2-1 win. With the return fixture due in only 5 weeks, the recognition that the contest was even and enjoyable and could have gone either way and with FKA Mad away supporting the PM’s desperate attempt to save the union there was no crowing from the victors, just a smug if tired inner glow. Against the odds Smudger had led his reduced squad to a memorable if unexpected win in the game of the 3 Micks.

OTVFC v Charlton Rangers
Reporter: Smudger
Outflanked by a Lone Ranger!!
Tamps 4 - 5 Charlton Rangers
As per last season the Tamps started slowly and found themselves 0-3 behind after about 15 mins, Rangers had added a new flying forward to their ranks and his pace was too much for the right side of the Tamps defence, all 3 goals came from players losing the ball in midfield and then being hit on the counter by the pace
of the Rangers forward, we had spoken about the need to move the ball quickly so as to negate the physical Rangers midfield but got caught and paid the price, all the goals were very well taken.
Once we got into our stride we played some really good football, the introduction of Podge sr, to help combat the speedy forward helped no end, and we were rewarded with two well constructed goals, Mark the bike bagged the first after good work by Jim and DVD, the second turned back the clock as Mr Lockett finished with aplomb after being put through by Podge sr, back in it, only for another piece of poor play on our part allowed them a 4th before half time, yet again Mark the keeper had no chance. The one incident that riled all the Tamps was a terrible tackle on Chris by their speedy forward, and Chris had every right to hurl abuse at him (which he did!!) the forward thought the tackle was ok!! definitely new to vets footy.
Changes at half-time seemed to make a difference, Smudger came one at right back, Scholesy went up front and the aim was to add a bit of pace and width to our game, and to a extent it worked, the ball was now being moved wide quicker, Tonksy had by now realised by doing this it saved 6 studs down your calf he cant afford with those legs!!), Smudger started to put in some tremendous crosses from the right wing and from a pin point cross TVB rolled back the years to arrive at the far post and plant a header past the keeper. By now it was one way traffic, we were creating lots of chances, Podge sr put 3 over the bar, and MTB managed to his the bar when it was easier to score (Ronnie Rosenthal vs Villa). In one of Rangers few forays into Tamps territory the speedy winger put in a low cross which Mark should have cut out, but it reached a Rangers forward whose effort found the net via TVB's shin, we ploughed forward and another cross from Smudger found it's way to Roy who finished with a flourish, we battered away at the Rangers goal and Andy had what looked like a great equaliser rubbed off due to an offside flag, not one of the oppo appealed and their keeper was going mad as he thought the goal had been conceded down to poor defending (which was the case), the final whistle went and we hadn't been able to get the equaliser our second half performance had warranted.
A few pints and a bit of grub followed, onto next week and Avery Hill, a local derby with bragging rights with AH's Mad Dave at stake.......can't wait.

v Crofton
Venue: Old Roan Sports Field
Reporter: Smudger
And a new season begins.....
The season started with a visit from our near neighbours Crofton Albion. The game followed it's usual pattern of our recent encounters, the Tamps moving the ball around from the back, and Crofton doing their utmost to put us under pressure, nothing much happened until a cross from the wing found it's way into the Tamps box, Charlie Hyam (making yet another comeback) called loudly for the ball, unfortunately his taking control of the situation ended there!! missing the ball with one foot and cushioning the ball with the shin of his other the ball finished a the feet of the Crofton forward who hammered a shot via Mark the Keepers hand into the net. some people put this mistake down to him still being miffed at losing his 'shortest cameo' record to Len Sales the week before
After this the Tamps took full control and were rewarded with some well made goals, Mark the bike finished off a move that started at the back and ended with a nice goal at the end of it, Mr Lockett also finished off some good work by Roymond who had charged off on one of his mazy runs, and Andy struck a fine third from outside the box, despite the universal cry from the oppo of 'watch out for the stepover' a few took this too literally and did just that, watch, Andy then lashed it in from 20 yards.
The second half was pretty much the same as the first, lots of nice footy from the Tamps, and bags of effort from Crofton, the game had kicked off late to allow Glen from Crofton to come straight from the airport to play some part in the game and this he did after about 10 mins of the second half, this coincided with the return of Scholesy after a long injury layoff Ainsley replaced Andy upfront, but was unable to add to his 537 goals. Glen proceeded to put himself about and Scholesy to just run about, despite the constant cry from Roymond of 'Colin what are you over that side for?' then a goal via route one for MTB, at half time Mick the keeper came on for his debut, unlike Mark the keeper, Mick can launch a ball, this he did straight over the Crofton defence for MTB to run onto and tuck away,
the fifth was put away by Scholesy after more good football from the Tamps. By now Crofton were very tired and Tonksy, Squire Smith and Mr Lockett were
having the run of the middle of the park, the defence of Good Graham, Smudger, Jim and the Gaffer didn't have a lot to do and all switched off as a long
goal kick sailed over them and left Mick facing a lone striker, despite GG's attempt to clear Crofton got a well deserved consolation Goal.
A decent start but room for improvement.
We repaired to the bar for beer and food, and Glen kept his promise that if we kicked off late the Crofton boys would be there all afternoon and at 1800hrs they were, well done chaps.
